Amy Cure Blog: Crazy Months

This month has been crazy busy for me. I’ve had lots of wedding planning cramming, as well as trying to qualify on the Track World Championships and competing with the Wiggle High5 girls around Europe. This has been really stressful for myself, and at times even having me questioning myself.  This year has been by far the hardest year in my professional cycling career. I started the year with a clear goal in my head. Firstly, I wanted to win Commonwealth Games Gold Medals. I also had another big moment to look forward to, GETTING MARRIED!!!! In October in Belgium. These where my 2 big things this year that has been all my concentration for the year, as well as really wanting to compete in the Road World Championships Team Time Trial.

This year has by far had its struggles that have also decided to come along for the ride with me. I started the year off great, winning 2 gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and it was a goal that was quite successfully completed. It was then end of March and time to head back home to Europe and get ready for my wedding and starting my road season with the Wiggle High5 girls.

This year has been quite challenging with the qualification system for the track and because us Australians decided not to compete at the World Championships last year it means that we are really behind the eight ball when it comes to qualifying this year. Normally individually we can get our points at the Oceania Championships, but the date of the Oceania Championships has now been changed, on the same week as my wedding. This means that I have had to do a lot smaller UCI races around Europe this year to get my individual points enough to be allegeable to race the World Cups and then most important the Track World Championships next year. Finally I am now in a position where I have my points and can relax a little bit with some final wedding preparations ahead of my big day.

My road racing has been far from what I would have liked it to be. I have had a little bit of bad luck as well as a lot of unexpected last minute race schedule changes. This has been very challenging to fix around my wedding planning the last months and has taken a lot more out of me than I would have expected.  I have now had my last race for the season and really knuckling down on my wedding planning. With only 5 more weeks until my big day I’m finally starting to feel on top of things and cant wait to marry my fiancé.
