Giorgia Bronzini

Rider Information:

Date of Birth: 03/08/1983

Place of Birth: Piacenza, Italy

Disciplines: Road & Track

Rider Bio:

Giorgia Bronzini was born on the 3th August 1983 in Piacenza, Italy. Bronzini is one of the teams most experienced riders, having turned professional in 2003 as a member of the Italian registered Diadora-Pasta Zara cycling team. Giorgia’s extensive career has seen her claim over 70 victories on the road with her most memorable results including her two World Road Cycling Championships won in 2010 and 2011. In addition to her impressive results, Giorgia has also managed to balance a remarkable career on the track, having become the World Points Race Champion in 2009.

Over the past years on Wiggle Honda Bronzini has won the most races for the team in various stage races like the Giro Donne, the Giro della Toscana, the Tour de L’ardeche, the Route de France, Chongming Island, Zhousan Island and the GP Elsy Jacobs but she also won one-day races like the GP Dottignies, GP Citta di Padova and the prestigious Prudential RideLondon GP. In September 2014 Bronzini was in the lead bunch sprinting for victory at the World Championships in Spain finishing in fourth place.

In 2015 Giorgia won four races with the Drentse 8, the Chongming Island World Cup and two stages in the Route de France. She also finished second in the Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta and the World Cup in Vargarda, Sweden. But above all Bronzini was invaluable for the 35 UCI wins of the team being the team captain in most of the races like the Tour of Flanders won by her compatriot and good friend Elisa Longo Borghini.

At the end of 2015 Bronzini announced her retirement from professional cycling after the 2016 World Championships in Qatar but she has decided to go for another season in 2017 after having won two stages in the 2016 Giro Rosa, a stage in the Emakumeen Bira and another GP Dottignies. Bronzini was valuable in Longo Borghini’s bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio but had to miss out the World Championships in Qatar due to illness.

Bronzini’s longevity in the sport is a testament to her exceptional capabilities. Despite having one of the most powerful sprints in the peloton, Giorgia is capable of achieving results on a large variety of terrain. In 2017, her 5th season on the team, she will continue to be a mentor for her teammates as well as trying to make her palmares more impressive than it already is.
