Grace Garner Blog: Dwars Door Vlaanderen

It was a horrible day, 100% chance of rain on the forecast really didn’t let us down!

On the cards for the day, we had 4 climbs and 2 cobble sections. It was a tense race to start with, as the road surface was slippery but we all managed to stay out of trouble up the front and avoided all the crashes!

I felt really good and was confident in the peloton. I climbed well up the Kluisberg in the middle of the group so I was happy with my form and with the feelings I had in the race. Then I punctured…. in the most crucial part of the race, with around 35km to go. I got a wheel change but up ahead the race winning move was going. I kept fighting but a slow wheel change at that part of the race meant there was no getting back. Starting with only 4 riders, then me puncturing, meant they wasn’t much more we could do. A good race to test the legs, but no result for us.

Now hopefully build on the form for Healthy Ageing tour, while the team tackle Flanders on Sunday!
