Julie Leth was born on 13 July 1992 in Aarhus, Denmark. Leth turned pro in 2012 with Team Ibis Cycles before joining Team Hitec Products in the middle of 2013. The past few years she competed for the Norwegian team before Wiggle High5 announced that she will join the British registered team for the 2017 season. Leth who is doing both Road and Track is an all-round rider.
Leth is a former Junior Track World Champion (Points Race) and a double Elite National Champion having won the road race in 2011 and the Time Trial in 2014. Unfortunately her career has been marked with lots of injuries including a serious crash in the Winstom Salem Classic in May 2015 in which she sustained a fracured vertebra, two fractures in her jaw and a broken elbow. Due to these injuries Leth was out of competition for almost the whole 2015 season. Last season Leth was glad to return to racing at a top level again which was a major highlight for her. She also finished on the podium in a stage of the Energiewacht Tour and helped Amalie Dideriksen winning the World Championships in Qatar.
Leth started with sports at the age of 6. At first she started to do athletics, long distance running. She has always loved sports and her dream has always been to go to the Olympics one day. As a middle distance runner Leth won several medals at the Danish Championships. Unfortunately she got injured and also started to struggle with her motivation. To stay in shape, she started to go out on the bike with her father and little brother (She also has a sister). For over a year she was combining racing and running but in her second season she got selected to do some cycling events with the National Team and therefore she decided to quit running.
Leth who has done Gymnasium at school is a real family person. She likes to hang out with friends and family and loves to meet up with them and cook dinner. She also enjoys walking.
2017 will be Leth’s first year on the Wiggle High5 team and after 4 years on Hitec Products she needed a change of environment to further develop as a rider. One of her main goals in 2017 is to win at least one Danish title, to help the team to a lot of victories and maybe get a podium herself.
