Lisa Brennauer third in Healthy Ageing Tour opening Time Trial

Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling’s Lisa Brennauer took third place in the opening Stage One time trial of the Healthy Ageing Tour, in Heerenveen, Netherlands. The former World Champion completed the flat 8km course in a time of ten minutes, 45 seconds, to finish just ten seconds outside that set by stage winner Anna van der Breggen (Boels-Dolmans). Van der Breggen’s teammate, World Champion Chantal Blaak finished in second place.

“I’m super happy,” Brennauer smiled. “I think it’s a really good start into the Tour, and in general it’s a very good result for the ITT. In the first ITT of the year, you never know where you’re at, and this was just a short one.

“I’m super happy, and also Kirsten was of course going super fast as well,” she added.

Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling’s Dutch sprinter Kirsten Wild took fifth place, just three seconds behind teammate Brennauer. With time bonuses available on every road stage, both are within range of the overall race lead, but Brennauer prefers to wait and see.

“We have to see how it’s going every day, but I think it’s a really good situation for us. We didn’t lose a lot today, so I think it’s a super nice start. I think we have to see from day to day because there’s the team time trial as well, and there are some very strong teams here. We haven’t done it at all together, so we have to see how this goes as well.

“So I think it’s better to look from day to day and make the best possible result there, instead of focusing too much on GC before the TTT is done.”

Brennauer will start the second stage wearing the Orange Jersey of the Sprint Classification, while Wild will wear the Red Jersey of Most Aggressive Rider.

“Everybody’s happy,” Brennauer said. “We all were a bit nervous because it was the first time trial of the season. There’s all the new equipment that you have to get used to a bit, but also the staff have done a really good job here today.

“Yeah, I think everybody’s happy.”
