Amy Roberts Blog: Trying to avoid the rain clouds!

Having not had so many races the last few weeks it has meant a lot of time spent at home and many hours spent trying to avoid the rain clouds.. which recently has been pretty impossible. Times like these make being a cyclist living in Britain not the easiest things… I really can’t remember the last time i went out without wearing my waterproof, and not just for light showers but for constant heavens open type of rain. I can say it really does make me want to pack up and move somewhere where the sun does shine more than once in a blue...

Amy Roberts Blog: The toughest Nationals in years

So it was back to pinning a number on last week with the National Championships in Isle of Man. Probably one of the toughest races of the year and this year was certainly no different. With a very gruelling course and the standard of the British Women’s peloton probably at the highest its been, there was going to be no holding back. At the start of the season I wanted the national champs, especially the TT to be a big goal of mine. Unfortunately I didn’t have the best prep, with illness and quite a bit of time of not being able to...

Amy Roberts Blog: Part of a Winning Team in China

For my third time since being professional, it was time to head to China for the Tour of Chongming island. The next round of the Women’s WorldTour. It was my first race for the team after about a month with no racing so was a little nervous but excited to get back with the girls. China is always a little different when it comes to packing and getting ready for the trip. The first thing that is needed is a visa. This can sometimes be difficult and with a lot of information needed, we have to make sure we have it all before going to London to...

Amy Roberts Blog: Time for a break

It’s been a busy start to the season for me with a lot of time living out of a bag in hotels and not much time at home. Sometimes it’s hard being away for long periods of time, but with the Wiggle High5 girls and staff it does make it easier. We always make sure there’s some downtime but also time to just chill, catch up on some normal things, and have some fun together. I think being away a lot definitely makes time go quicker, i can’t believe we’re in April already!! So, like I said it’s time for a bit of a break (from racing...

Amy Roberts Blog: 30 degrees in March!

Racing in 30 degree sun in March.. that’s not something I’ve said before that’s for sure.  It’s been a nice start to the season, like I said in my last blog I was in for some different races this season and I’ve really liked it. Earlier this month I did Strade Bianche in Italy. This was one of the biggest races I have done so was pretty nervous. It’s also a tough one with many gravel roads.. but a race I enjoyed and would like to do again. This year was extra special as our Italian Elisa won. The whole...

Amy Roberts Blog: Time to head to Belgium

This really means the 2017 season has begun. 19th Feb, Lucy, Grace and I went to London to be at the London Bike Show for High5. We got there and spent a bit of time on the stand talking to customers and helping out with anything they wanted to know. We then got to go on stage and were interviewed by Rebecca Charlton. This was really nice and hopefully we gave a bit of an insight into women’s cycling for everyone who was at the bike show.  That night we stayed in London as the next day we were off to Belgium for our first camp with the...

Amy Roberts Blog: Back to the Races!

So after a long time out of racing due to illness it was time to get back to it. With my first race being Bene ladies tour, pretty much right on the boarder of Holland and Belgium. It started off with a very early morning and a taxi ride to Bristol to catch our 7am flight to Amsterdam. It was nice to have Anna travelling with me too. We got to Amsterdam where Lucy and Lars were waiting to take us home. Again I was lucky enough to be having them as hosts for the next week. Once we arrived we did a nice spin to get the travel out the legs...

Amy Roberts Blog: Coping with a midseason virus

It’s been a tough last few weeks for me and things haven’t really gone how I hoped. With a very busy start to the season having lots of racing it eventually took its toll on my body and I have ended up picking up a virus. Leaving me with having time off my bike and not being able to train. This has been difficult and its taking a lot longer than I had hoped to get over it. The national champs, esp the time trial, were going to be a big goal for me but with them fast approaching at the end of this month, its looking like I’m not...

Amy Roberts Blog “Tour de Yorkshire and China”

Next up was the Asda Tour de Yorkshire Women’s Race this year! For me the race starts a few days before. I travelled to York on Wednesday and picked up my team mates Anna Christian and Lucy Garner on the way. This is a time where having our Honda cars come in very handy!! Thursday was a busy day! I caught up with my teammates, and we set off to do a recce of the course. It wasn’t a normal recce, as we had BBC Breakfast join us for most of the day! We did the first 75km of the route in the car and stopped at a local school to meet the...

Amy Roberts Blog: Getting a feel for the lifestyle in Holland and Belgium!

As I’m coming to the end of nearly a month of being away racing and training in Holland and Belgium I thought it would be a good time to update you all on how it’s going….. So far this year I’ve been lucky enough to get lots of racing in the legs and get into my first full road season without having a winter on the track.  This block has consisted of quite a few races starting off with Dwars door Vlaanderen – a small Flanders type race with some of the cobbled climbs and sections, so a tough one. For me it went pretty...
