Lucy Garner Blog: The off season has ended already!

Lucy Garner Blog: The off season has ended already!

The off season has come to an end. It flies by every year but I feel rested and ready to start my winter training for the 2019 season. At the moment I am doing endurance rides and 2 gym sessions a week. The endurance rides are done relatively steady, concentrating on cadence and pretty much enjoying my time on the bike without too much pressure. Sometimes I like to swap the road bike for a MTB and head out into the woods. We have a lot of great tracks where I live so I can get at least 3 hours of off road riding in which is great! I really...

Lucy Garner Blog: Racing is nearly over…

It’s that time of year again when all goes a bit quiet. Racing is nearly over and then it’s time to enjoy the off season with friends and family. My last race was about month ago and I loved every minute of it. The girls were in high spirits and we just had fun on and off the bike. Knowing it will be my last race with some of the girls is sad but for sure I’ll see them in the peloton next year… Just in different colours. It was my birthday on the 20th September so I decided to go back to the UK and enjoy it with my family and friends....

Lucy Garner Blog: Why do I like going back to the UK?

Hello everyone! Hope you are all having a great week!! I haven’t been racing much recently but that doesn’t mean the training has stopped. I just got back from the UK where I had 2 good solid weeks of training preparing myself for the last stage race of the season which is Lotto Belgium tour. A 4 day stage race which I’m really motivated to do. Why do I like going back to the UK? Well, first of all I love catching up with friends and family and it’s been quite a few months since I was back home so it was lovely to catch up with loved...

Lucy Garner Blog: “It’s great to be back in the peloton”

The first few races have been and gone. It’s great to be back in the peloton and racing with Wiggle High5. My first weekend of racing went well. I was really happy with my shape for Nieuwsblad. I’ve struggled in the past racing there but I managed to stay with the front group until the Muur. I kept fighting but wasn’t able to join the front group at the end so finished 1 and a half minutes behind the winner. It was a tough course and race so I was happy with my result considering it was my first race. The day after I was racing in...

Lucy Garner Blog: Excited for the coming season!

Posted by on Jan 31, 2018 in Features, Lucy Garner Blog | 0 comments

Time have flown by and in a few weeks, I will be starting my first race of the 2018 season… EXCITING!! I’ve worked hard over the winter so I feel confident in starting the season. At the end of October, you feel like the wait will be forever before February comes, but the time soon passes by. At the beginning of January I went on a training camp to Gran Canaria. I love it there! The weather is always warm enough to wear shorts and you can train very well there in the mountains. Another reason I go there is because every year my parents go...

Lucy Garner Blog: Another year with Wiggle High5!

I am so happy to announce that I will be staying with Wiggle High5 for another year!! In 2018 it will be my 6th year as a professional and my 3rd year on Wiggle High5. I’m really looking forward to meeting all of the new riders on the team and I’m super happy that my sister Grace will be staying with the team in 2018 as well. I thought I’d do a bit of a 2017 overview to show why I love being on Wiggle High5 and a bit of a behind the scenes look into what we get up. This is a photo of my and Grace. It may just look like a normal selfie...

Lucy Garner Blog: Off Season Antics

This year was a packed off season. I went back to the UK to spend time with my family and friends and the time flew by. Lars was away in America for his first race of the season so I wanted to enjoy my birthday with loved ones and that’s just what I did! I mostly drive back to the UK now that I have Robby. It’s a long drive but it means I can easily take my bike with me and its always handy to have my Honda in the UK whilst I am there. I had a lot of lunch dates with friends, exploring the British country side and spending time with my two...

Lucy Garner Blog: The Lotto Belgium Tour

So, my last stage race of the season was last week: Lotto Belgium Tour. I hadn’t raced for a while before hand so I was nervous about my fitness and condition. I had trained a lot but racing is always different to training. I like racing in Belgium. Fast, hectic racing. That’s what I like! The first stage was a prologue. I was satisfied with how that went. I hadn’t been on my TT bike for a couple of months as it wasn’t at my house to train on so finishing 44th out of 123 starters wasn’t too bad. Jolien won which was great! The second...

Lucy Garner Blog: Keeping the legs turning over

It’s been a while since I have last raced but that doesn’t mean the training has stopped… My last race of the season will be the 5-8th September in Belgium for the Lotto Belgium Tour. There’s still a few weeks to go but I’m already looking forward to getting back with the team and putting one last big effort in before the season comes to an end. Because it was a long time ago since my last race, after BeNe Ladies tour I started to get the hours back into the legs with a few more endurance efforts rather than intensive efforts. I did...

Lucy Garner Blog: Getting stuck into the next part of the season!

I can’t believe we are half way through the season already. It seems to have flown by. When I look back to winter training in Gran Canaria it doesn’t feel like more than a month ago but here we are, already in July! I didn’t have the best National Championships with a puncture and having sprinter legs trying to climb a mountain on the Isle of Man so I’m tried to forget that as quickly as possible and look to my next race which was the BeNe Ladies tour which was on the 13th-16th. I had a few days off the bike after...
